The PMMMG from the Swanage Railway have their displays and literature within the confines of the layout, as it is promotion of the Mining Museum at Norden that this layout is associated with. Goathorn peninsular is situated on the south west side of Poole Harbour, and was the point where ball clay from Benjamin Fayles mines was trans-shipped from the Company’s own 3’ 9” gauge tramway, to ships berthed at the end of the pier.
Fayle’s tramways, and its pier are modeled in 7mm scale in the Edwardian period, although very few changes happened in this area until 1939 when this section of Fayle’s tramway was lifted and the area became a testing ground for new types of tank. Fayle’s tramway and Pike Brothers tramway are now being reborn in the form of a clay Mining Museum at Norden park and ride site on the Swanage Railway.
